Golf tournament app for friends and Groups

One group. A tournament to play for.

Run a small WORM Group tournament across separate foursomes without combining everyone onto one scorecard. This guide walks through a free two-round event, shows how completed entries become standings, and explains what to check when a result is missing.

Choose the tournament before the first round

Group owners and co-organizers set up the event. Eligible members can play in separate foursomes and enter their own completed, approved scorecards. A new scorecard supports up to eight golfers; that is a per-card limit, not a requirement that the entire tournament play together.

A five-minute organizer checklist

  1. Have every competitor join the Group and confirm their membership is accepted. A guest name on a card is not a tournament entry or an account identity.
  2. Choose the format and scoring basis deliberately. For a straightforward strokes-only event, choose Stroke play and Gross; the tournament setup also offers Handicap net and WORM net.
  3. Set 9 or 18 holes and the number of required rounds. Check any required course, eligible-player list, play dates, entry deadline and event time zone before anyone joins.
  4. For a no-money outing, keep entry free. Review competitive settings before the first golfer joins or enters a card: those settings then lock.
  5. Arrange tee times with the course and tell players which numbered tournament round they are playing. Separate foursomes can use separate scorecards.

From setup to standings

A selected roster makes a member eligible; it does not automatically register them. A free event can register a golfer when they enter their first eligible card. Each golfer can use a card only once in the same event, with one card per numbered round.

Tournament standings use eligible completed and approved entries. They are not a hole-by-hole live leaderboard for the whole event. Individual shared scorecards can update during play, so friends can follow a round before its result enters the tournament.

  1. Open the tournament from your Group and check its rules and entry requirements. For an event with a recorded entry fee, join before teeing off; WORM does not collect the fee.
  2. Use Start tournament round for the correct numbered round. Check the selected Group, course, tees and hole count before play. A normal round needs its Group selected before starting to be eligible later.
  3. Finish the card and check the entry result. Each linked golfer reviews and approves their own scores. When a connected tournament entry is offered, it applies to that golfer’s result, not every player on the card.
  4. If entry did not complete, keep the saved card and use the tournament’s Enter scorecard option for the appropriate numbered round when eligible. Check that your round appears in Tournament standings.

Worked example: eight friends, two foursomes, two rounds

This is a hypothetical example, not a real WORM event or an app screenshot. Eight accepted Group members play a free, two-round, nine-hole Gross stroke-play tournament. They split into two foursomes, each with its own shared card for each round.

Each golfer enters their own eligible result for Round 1 and Round 2. In this snapshot, four golfers have entered at least one round; the other four have not entered a result yet. Lower combined strokes wins, but a golfer needs both required rounds to receive a rank.

A saved round is not always an entered result

If a scorecard is missing from the tournament, first check the golfer’s entry status rather than replaying or duplicating the round. A successful local save, online sync, personal approval and tournament entry are separate steps.

What you seeWhat to check
Round saved, but no tournament resultReconnect and check the save and entry status. A failed entry does not erase a successful save or approval; retry the existing eligible card.
One friend is missing from the standingsThat golfer must be an accepted, eligible member and approve their own result. The host cannot enter another member’s score as that person.
Card is not offered for entryCheck the selected Group and its rules, individual format, hole count, complete scores, required course and any play-date restrictions. A scramble card is not an individual tournament card.
A dated round is rejectedPlay dates use the first recorded tee-off in the event’s time zone. The separate entry deadline controls how late an eligible result can be submitted.
Lowest visible total has no rankCheck required-round progress. One low round in a two-round event does not outrank a golfer with two valid entries.
Result is unavailable or needs review after a correctionCheck the current approval and result notice. A changed or hidden result is not proof that another golfer has become the confirmed winner.

For a golf trip or a recurring crew

A one-round event gives your next outing a clear competition. A multi-round tournament can keep the golf on a friends’ trip together, while the Group preserves the crew’s standings and records beyond that trip.

WORM does not book courses, reserve tee times or manage travel itineraries. Keep those arrangements with your course or organizer.

Check the format before choosing an app

If you are comparing golf tournament apps, start with the format, scoring rules, entry process and visibility your event needs. WORM fits groups using individual stroke play or Stableford and golfers who want their tournament results alongside their ordinary rounds.

WORM’s ordinary-round scramble scorecards are separate from Group tournaments. Scramble tournaments and match-play brackets are not currently supported. WORM can record tournament entry terms and estimated prizes, but it does not collect fees, verify payments or pay prizes.

WORM’s handicap and WORM Index are personal estimates. WORM does not issue an official GHIN Handicap Index or post scores to GHIN.

Common questions

Can different foursomes enter the same tournament?

Yes. Eligible Group members can play on separate scorecards and enter their own completed, approved results. Each entry must meet that tournament’s requirements.

Does WORM have live tournament leaderboards?

Shared round scorecards update during play when connected. Group tournament standings use eligible completed, approved entries, and golfers earn a rank after all required rounds are entered.

Does WORM support scramble tournaments?

Group tournaments currently use individual stroke play or Stableford. WORM supports scramble scorecards for ordinary rounds, but those are a separate feature.

Can I run a tournament without collecting money?

Yes. You can use the competition for bragging rights. WORM does not process payments or require you to collect money.

Can the host enter everyone’s tournament scores?

No. A host can organize the event and keep a shared card, but each account-linked golfer must approve and enter their own eligible result. Guest names do not become tournament members.

Why am I not ranked after entering one round?

A golfer receives a tournament rank only after all required valid rounds are entered. In a two-round event, one entered round shows progress, even if its total is lower than everyone else’s completed total.
